2 MONTHS HOME AS FAMILY OF FIVE

WOW I really can't believe that we have been home for 2 months. In some respects it feels like just yesterday and in others it seems we have been together for ever!!!!!

God has been so good to our family. We are so Blessed by Him. He has strengthened our family and given us 3 beautiful, healthy and happy kids.

I have gone back to work after being at home for 2 months. Dubale has adjusted well to this so far, but we would appreciate your prayers for him in this new transition. He and I have been going to story hour at the library each Monday and he is really enjoying that. We read a book, do a little craft and eat a little snack.

Dubale and I have also been going for lots of walks. He loves to be outdoors as he is very energetic.

Tella is doing well in college. She just recently was hired at a middle school which is close to her college for an after school program. She is home on the weekends. We had a wonderful time this weekend shopping, sorting out and organinzing at home. It was good to have this time!

Casey has been busy with school, Band competitions, Friday night football games, Youth Life, ABY, Homecoming Dance......She is one busy young lady. Oh she is also helping to watch Dubale while I work. These stories are very entertaining:)

Tim has been working about 3 hours away from home, so he is gone from Monday morning to Thursday afternoon. He is loving being a new pappa.

Adjusting well to our new life as a family of five! I just want to encourage you, whatever God is saying to you.....telling you to do........I know that sometimes what God tells us to do can be very scary, seem impossible, plain not be in our plans............BUT He knows the plans He has for you and for your family. You can rely on Him. You can give all of your worries, anxieties, etc to Him. He is a Big God! He knows Best! He is always with you! He will guide you! He will protect and strengthen you! I Encouage you not to run from God's plans for you......because if you do you will miss out on some pretty awesome Blessings! Dawn

One Month Home as a Family of Five

WOW!

It's hard to believe that we have been home for one month already. Dubale is adjusting beautifully. Besides sleeping and eating well, he also cleans up his toys and plate after each meal. God has been so gracious in allowing us to bond. Initially Dubale only wanted Tim when he was home. Understandable since Tim works/stays away Monday to Thursday, but Dubale has adjusted well. He no longer yells/screams when I come near him if Pappa is home. Tim has been so good to reinforce Dubale's bonding to me. For this I am so thankful. He loves his sisters so much. Each day when Casey comes home from school he runs to her and snuggles with her for at least an hour. They wrestle like crazy. He is so strong! Towards the end of the week after Tella has been gone for college, Dubale starts looking in her room to see if she is home yet. He has mastered riding his bicycle with training wheels. He is bonding well to each of us and each in a different way. He is socialable, but doesn't go to stranges indiscrimately. Good! The only thing he does that we will work on is each time he says "By" he also says "I love you" regardless of who he is talking to.

Vocabulary is increasing also. Additional words Dubale can say and understand are:

Night, Good morning, Dylan, Hana, Hope, Pastor Don, Miss Cindy, truck, trash, open, hot/cold, outside, Buttons, Hannah, Puppy, Hannah outside, up please. Sentences: "Mommy I not full" at lunchtime. I asked him what he wanted. "Beans" He LOVES baked beans. His ball rolled over the hill and he ran and got it once. Rolled over again he said, "Mommy get it" and laughed.

It has been work in adjusting. Parenting looks a lot different for us then it did 16 and 20 years ago. The biggest change is our relationship with the Lord. Through this He has strengthened us. You have to remember Tim and I also have a 16 and 20 year old. We would not change our decision for the world. It's not always easy. It has taken sacrifice from each of us, but it so totally worth it. I have had so many people say, "God will Bless Your Family for what you have done." I say, "He already has!" Thank you Lord for each of our children. Help us to raise them to look to you Jesus. Help Tim and I to be a strong example of this. We Love You more each day Lord. Dawn

Count your blessings name them one by one!

Tomorrow 8/28/10 will mark our one year anniversary of applying to America World Adoption. Some things we have prayed continuously for is the we would bond with our son and him to us, that he would be loved and be shown Gods love, for his health, and that he would be safe. It is amazing to us how God has shown us so clearly that He not only cared enough to hear our prayers, but He is showing us how He answered our petitions to Him.
First of all let me say that we feel so connected to Dubale. It is difficult for me to explain, but in our hearts we know that we are family. Though he came to us a different route than Tella and Casey, it is amazing at how God has bonded us together. Sometimes I forget that I did not birth him. Dubale has been shown love. We can tell it by the way he has bonded to us and his ability to express himself. He wraps his little arms so tightly around our necks and gives kisses galore. The Doctor at the Transition Home told us that Dubale was one of the healthiest children there. Thank you Lord. And Boy can this kid eat. He has learned to bow his head for prayers before starting his meal....well sometimes he sneaks a little nibble if he is really hungry. I can just see Jesus throwing His head back and laughing as He watches our family. The Lord tells us that He sets the lonely in families. I just didn't know how lonely I was. Funny thing is, most people think we are helping/saving a little child, but he in a sense is helping us. We are so very blessed to have been given three beautiful children. We are so very thankful.

Dubale is quite the jokester. Mom says I will earn it trying to play a joke on him. The other day I was sweeping and laid the dust pan down. When I went back to get it, I thought I had lost my mind because it was gone. That was until I say our son walking nonchalantly across the dining room from the living room. Sure enough the lost dust pan was hidden in the living room.
He loves to wrestle, play Lego's, cars, and anything to do with a hammer. He is definitely his fathers son. He loves his sisters, whom he calls Auntie Tella and Auntie Casey.
Another day as he was watching me wash my hands, he wanted to wash his. Since he had just washed his I told him no. He decided to force himself to go to the bathroom since he knew that I couldn't say no after that. To resourceful!
Dubale does great with people. He is definitely gifted in that area. He sticks out his little hand to either shake or give high five. Occasionally he announces, "Hi, I Dubale".
He is definitely a daddy's boy. He mimics everything. When Grandma comes to visit, he insist on holding her hand or sitting next to her. Too cute!
We are so very blessed. Thank you Lord for putting our family together. Thank you for placing friends and family around us to encourage and support us. Thank you for giving us Your wisdom, strength and courage. Thank you for being such an awesome Father. Dawn

TEENS ROCK

Yesterday we realized that our original plan fell through for getting the bookbags. Well, I should say our original plan fell through. God's however was smooth sailing! You know I hear a lot of people complaining about "our youth today" and I have always felt offended by these remarks and felt them unjust. Yesterday the youth in my circle, if you will, showed just how amazing they truly are.
After Casey heard the news about the lack of bookbags, she immediately said, "I will text my friends". So off she went. Within 2 hours teens started showing up at our front door. As of now, we have 10 of the 17 needed to take to our friends and Casey, with confidence in her eyes and voice said, "Don't worry mom we will get all that we need". WOW!!!
1 Timothy 4:12 tells us, "Do not let anyone look down because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life,in love, in faith and in purity".
Psalm 119:9 says "How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word."
These youth are awesome; living out their faith! I can imagine God looking down on their activities and on their hearts and smiling from ear to ear with pride in His children. Our God Reigns!!!

EMBASSY APPOINTMENT

We got "the call". We leave this Friday, arriving in Addis Saturday evening, and picking up Dubale on Tuesday for Wednesday Embassy Appt. This is the last hurdle in bringing our boy home. It has been such a mix of emotions the last couple of days and we are simply humbled at God's grace, mercy, guidance, strength in our lives. God has orchestrated out each intricate detail. It is simply amazing! We have had family and friends come alongside of us in amazing ways. Thank each of you so much for helping us in so many ways. Phone calls just to make sure we aren't going into orbit, donations that we will take to some friends we have met in previous trips...friends who range from 5-15 years old and live on the streets....God must be rejoicing at how you have provide for these in their time of distress and have helped us to minister to these children while we are there. I don't think I can fully explain the difference this truly is making in their young lives. They will have a new set of clothes including warm dry shoes to keep them warm and dry. Even more importantly, they will feel the love of Christ because of you. THANK YOU. You have prayed for us and with us. What a gift!
Tella, Casey and Justin have truly been a blessing in helping to pack, repack, run so many errands, help to keep me grounded etc. Let me tell you that is no small feat!
Our friends, Danny and Anissa Anderson and their girls have graciouly offered to transport us to and from the airport. What a weight off our shoulders. THANK YOU!
God has truly blessed each of us. He has adopted us and is teaching us about this through the adoption of our son, Dubale Wade Greathouse. We are humbled to say the least. I Love You guys. Dawn

Fingerprints of God

Shortly after becoming a Christian and moving into our home in 2000, I remember clearly a prayer that God would place "a" good Christian Friend in my life. You know, someone to share life's sweetness and struggles with, someone to pray with, to encourage and be encouraged by, "A Friend". Long story short, I got a call from Cindy explaining that she would like to start a women's small prayer group and asked me if I would be interested and asked me to pray about it for a week and she would call me back. I tried to tell her then that I had already been praying for this and the answer was yes! She insisted that I pray for a week and she would call me back. Now ten years later it is evident that in our friendship she tends to be the planner and I continue to be the more spontaneous. But what is AWESOME was that God heard my prayers, answered in a mighty way and has walked in our friendship to help us learn from each other, support/lift up each other in prayer, laugh and cry together, share happy times and times of great sorrow. He has truly blessed me with such a friend.
His blessings of friends didn't stop there. God has brought so many friends into my families life. Friends that we can call on at any time and know that they will just not mind, but they freely come alongside of us in so many ways that I can't even list them. We work together, play together, encourage one another's children, you know share life as it is happening.
Recently, as we are preparing and waiting to go back to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to pick up our son, these same Friends that God has blessed our lives so richly with have gone Above and Beyond anything we could have ever imagined. But isn't that how God works? He can, will and does provide for His family in such a mighty way.
Let me share:
June 2009 Tella Casey and I had the unbelievable opportunity to travel with Pastor Don, Cindy and Hope to bring home their three children. The intricate detail of how this worked out was nothing but God! His fingerprints were covering this trip and the details that He showed us of how He was working this out even years before. It is kind of like opening a huge, beautiful Christmas gift only to find more beautifully wrapped gifts! We just keep unwrapping them in awe at the beauty of the gift and the gift itself only to find that there are more and they are getting more beautiful and exquisite.
While we were in Ethiopia in 2009 we learned of a particularly vulnerable group of kids. Yes, it is a 3rd World Country and poverty is such that I had never experienced. A yound man, Robel, who is in his mid 20's had "taken these kids in". By that, I am not saying into a house, shelter, etc. These children ages ranging from 5-15 years old are living on the streets of Ethiopia.
How is Robel taking them in? The kids have to be willing to do two things. Work and go to school. He is trying to teach them how to care for themselves without begging, which is so prominent in Addis. To do this the children work. Some shine shoes, sell packs of gum, toothbrushes, etc for 1/2 the day. The other half they go to school. Robel works three jobs to pay for their education. These kids stole our hearts. They are not to be pittied. They need Friends to come alongside them and guide, direct, help educate, keep them fed and clothed. While we were there we bought their products and had our shoes cleaned. They were thrilled to get the work. In July 2010 Tim and I had an opportunity to spend some time with them again. They are wonderful. One young boy, Samuel, asked me if I was coming back. When I told him yes, he asked me to bring him a pair shoes. See, we think Africa and we think hot and dry temperatures. Right now it is 50 degrees in the day and raining. These children are cold! So when we came back and started talking to our friends and family about this they did what good friends do. They began helping to put things together for us to take back. We have decided to make a "survival bag" for each of the "street kids". Each backpack will include: fleece tie blanket, Tshirt, Jeans, tennis shoes, rain poncho, toothbrush and paste. In addition we have had donations for the kids at the orphanage, including blankets, clothes, school supplies, and balls.
God knew it was going to take each of us to working together to do the works He has had planned for years. Some to go, some to pray, some to provide, some to encourage and support.....
I have been Amazed the past two weeks at how God has shown His plan and so many intricate details that I am just in AWE!
In James 1:27 God tells us: "Religion that God accepts as pure and without fault is this: caring for orphans or widows who need help, and keeping yourself free from the world's evil influence." I am so thankful to be part of this plan and am so thankful to each person who has worked as the "Body of Christ" in this endevour.

IT'S A BOY. A BEAUTIFUL HERSHEY KISS!!

Tim and I are so excited to announce that we are parents of a beautiful 4year old boy. Court went very smoothly this morning. After spending much of our day yesterday in prayer and reading some specific scriptures together, Tim and I decided that he would be the one to speak to the judge today. Our thinking was that she would be able to understand one person better than both of us speaking. Well, we get into the court room and I am sitting closer to the judge and she looks up directly at me and starts asking questions. I in turn start talking then quickly remember the Tim is supposed to be talking. Not wanting to look confused I just kept on talking. The whole thing took less then five minutes. Then she said "Congratulations, you passed"
Sweet words to momma and pappa's ears.
We have had a great week with him. He is warming up and coming to us for comfort. He is very fast!!!! He hasn't refused any food that we have taken to him. Check! He has the most beautiful smile, laugh, dance, everything really! He is a miracle. We are so thankful to God for choosing Dubale as our son and Tella and Casey's brother. Please continue to pray as we wait to bring him home in one to two months. Praying for one!! But we trust that the Lord will work the rest out. Thank you for loving us providing financially and praying us through this process. We couldn't have done it without you!! Humbly, Dawn

June Update

We received our first update yesterday since our referral. A daily prayer has been that D feels love, is warm, learning about Jesus and is fed well. Well God has shown us again that He cares about our every concern. D has grown 2" and gained 5lbs!!!!
Another conversation that God and I have been having is that D be a Book Worm....you know love school....I just love God's sense of humor........the update regarding this is "He likes to draw pictures and he is more drawn to playing then giving attention to learning in class"!!! I could just see Jesus watching me as I read this and laughing at my disbelief. You see, I already have two artistic children......
Too Funny!!!

OUR CARPET IS WORN OUT......

To be totally honest, I have not been a patient waiter the past week. My poor kids, husband and dear friends have all had to withstand me talking nonstop, pacing the floors, checking email etc. BUT

We have a court date JULY 20th.
After working midnights I came home and the girls were both gone for the day so Tim and I were catching up after him being away at work for the week. I told him at 11:30
that we wouldn't be getting a call from our agency, America World, today as the time in Ethiopia was then 19:30 (7:30pm. At 12:05 the phone rang....area code 703....I said "Tim this is them" He looked puzzled as I answered the phone. Anna said she had good news...court date July 20 and we need to be in Addis by July 17 PM. She said to call the travel agent and if I could get the flight information back to them before 1400 (2pm) then America World would review the information and may be able to confirm whether or not these would work for our transportation in Ethiopia.
Forgot to ask Susan Parr phone number, so I googled it....what did I do before Google? I explained to the receptionist the urgency of getting this accomplished quickly as AWAA is leaving office at 2pm. As if she couldn't tell the urgency by my voice.....
Made a few phone calls, facebook, text...to get the word out.
At 1330 1:30pm Susan Parr herself had three flights emailed to us for review!!!Impressive!!!
We quickly read each one and forwarded the one we chose to America World at 1350 1:50pm. Did I mention that those staff members were leaving at 1400????
At 1355 I got an email back and our choice of flights was accepted. YYYYAAAHHH!!!!
Only 16 days til Tim and I meet our Son!!!WOW We are a little excited to say the least.I have a lot of thoughts about how the paper pregnancy is very much like a physical pregancy that I will try to share soon. Sorry, My mind is going crazy.
Thank each of you for your prayers for us. Please continue to pray for travel, the girls while we are away, D's heart/health/bonding. That he is well fed, loved, secure....Thank you Lord for sustaining us, for giving my family strength to withstand me, for D, our friends prayers for our family, for Tim and my employers working with us with schedules and my awesome coworkers for trading with me to fit my schedule so I don't have to us all my PDO at one time, for knowing the path that You have for us and guiding us on it. Love Dawn

am going to try to work my schedule so that I don't miss any time so

*For travel mercies and for the time we will be away from
Tella and Casey.

BEST WEEK OF MY LIFE!!

So this past week I was in Rockbridge VA, for young life camp.It is easy to say it was the best week of my life!I went to camp thinking i had everything together and my life was great, it was smooth sailing. But God was about to tell me different. The first night at camp was just a hang out night we had club and thats when God started talking but i thought no God I have this I dont need you im fine. Two days later we were having Cabin time it got really deep,God started talking again but this time i couldnt hide what i was feeling Bethany my Young Life Leader saw i was getting upset.By the time cabin time was over everyone was in tears,we had began to tear down thoes walls, and started talking about things that we had never talked about the things that were holding us back from God..After cabin time i grabed my book and went to the pourch I just wanted to forget about everthing and just read. But Bethany knew there was more I needed to get out so she came and sat with me on the pourch to talk.At first I didnt want to say anything I just wanted to hide it.But I stared talking and she sat and listened to everything that I had to say.We talked and cried for about an hour and at the end of the hour I was feeling a little better and was able to sleep. All week our speaker was talking about how we turned our chair on God but God never turns on us. The last day Bethany had one on one time with all the girls, and my one on one time with her really got me thinking about my life, what I was doing,How I was letting others run my life and not running it myself, who I am friends with..That day was filled with some very hard thinking it was almost like i was thinking about an exam for school but it was an exam for my life!My mind was all day. If i would give my life to God how would my friends act? Would i lose friends? Would ibe an out cast? would people make fun of me? Would they understand? these are some thing I was thinking about..Thursday night at club My head and heart was going crazy..Hafe way threw club they said we are going to sing this song and when we are done and if you have asked god into your heart this week we want you to stand. I cried the whole song,I dont even know why I was just crying. The song was over and I couldnt sit down.I stood there proud of my dission.I knew God had my back and thats all I need! Bethany asked me if I wanted her to stand with me and I said yes.after I told the camp I had turned my chair around I gave Bethany a hug because If it wasnt for her I dont really know if i would have asked god into my heart or If I would have even gone to camp and had the best week of my life! Bethanyy thank you so much! I love you!! You have changed my life forever. =)

God bless,
Casey
